the correct way to do what gm is talking about and the easiest way is to remove all your hardware drivers before removing your old componets that way windows does not get confused (which happens verry easily long live linux!) shutdown and then install your new stuff and reinstall over the old windows installation or repair

as for your newest problem double check that your nic drivers are installed correctly like bucky said. If they seem to be ok remove them and reinstall them. if that still does not work nuke your communication stack. and if that doesn't work then just buy a new nic they are too cheap now to deal w/ a major hastle.
