Here's an interesting read...at least I thought it was anyway
Videogame Aesthetics: The Future!
A pretty sizable and 'big-worded' article by a guy (who I think is a game developer himself) named David Hayward, in which he talks about the pros and cons of the game industry's neverending push towards photorealistic graphics. He gets a little philosophical at points, but it makes you think about where we're going with games and what there is to look forward to as our machines get more and more powerful.
It also mentions the split between commercially viable games and games made for the sake of curiousity, which is relevant to the new consoles coming out soon. Especially as I just read somewhere else that MS were planning on giving away XBox360s over the radio so that they would attract more mums! :s
Anyway, here's some HDRI screenies of HL2 models rendered on top of photographs by another random guy called Nick Bertke! Enjoy!
