Yea all that auto-levelling nonsense was part of Oblivion's noobification process it went through. It'd be so much cooler to hear about infamous areas from townsfolk, with powerful monsters you have to be afraid of and consciously avoid to get to treasures that give you huge jumps in ability.
Course then a lot of players would find out about it on some forum, cheat to get it and then fly through the game, saying it was boring afterwards!
