Here's the solution:

Right click on th autorun.exe (in the folder where you unzipped your Fifa), click Properties, then choose the tab Compatibility and in Compatibility mode click on Run this program and finally select Windows 2000. Now it should work.

However, I can't take the credits for finding it out on my own , but I guess my long days and nights of web searching and complicated attempts to solve it out have paid off. I found out the solution on mininova.org forums and thanks to them I could install and play the game.
