well thanks for your help SQ2.....but ive downloaded the latest directx from microsoft and its still not working, i don't know if its worth bothering with........ i also selected 'yes' when this part of the error message popped up:

and i downloaded that quest 3D program, i dont' know if that was necessary or not........
who knows, i think i give up.......
