MIT backroom boffins and boffinettes have worked out a way of wirelessly illuminating an unplugged light bulb from seven feet away.

Top boffin Marin Soljacic said the system uses a carefully designed magnetic field to deliver power to such devices from a range of 10 to 15 feet.
