All HDD manufacturers suffer failures and I happen to work in an environment where I see all types of failures from all manufacturers on a regular basis. Choosing a manufacturer really isn't much of a lottery like it used to be. If you are not buying a high performance Raptor, then the differences between all the other models is very small and of little consequence. Thats why I use WD Raptors for performance drives, especially for my operating systems and better games. My larger longterm storage drives are a blend of large capacity Western Digital Caviar and Maxtor DiamondMax.
