Well you were talking about a C2D w/ a 680i mobo and now were looking at P4's.
For the money those P4's just really arn't worth it. I'll give you some minimun
stuff to buy. You didn't tell me your budget, only that you were on one. For a
present day system this is the cheapest C2D out there and it will run circles
around those P4's.

Instead of a MSI 680i mobo go for this MSI mobo instead and save $100 :-)

That cpu I linked had a 800 MHz fsb where as most have a 1033 or 1333 fsb.
So your DDR2 667 memory will be alright though you should try saving up for
some DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) or at least enter all the free giveaways/contests
you can find that have some as a prize.
The cpu I picked was about $40 more than the P4 but the mobo was $100
cheaper. With that money you need to get a Good Power Supply. The PSU
compares to the Human Heart. It's supplying all the power/blood to every
sub-system. If it's weak or it fluxuates then then the body/system just never
runs good and tend to go to the Doctor alot. This is a Good, less expensive
model with enough power and connectors for SLI if you get the spare cash for
a 2nd card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817104014

I saved the video card for last. When playing games the biggest visible boost
that you can usually do for any system is upgrading the Video Card. And because
you initially mentioned a 680i mobo I've kept SLI as an option. Your looking at
the cheaper end here but your wanting to play games. This is a Gaming Forum :-)
I have to recommend getting at the very least an SLI compatible DX10 card. With
just one card you probably still won't be able to play DX10 games in DX10 mode
but you can play them in DX9 anyways. But if you can manage a 2nd card later
then DX10 mode will be an option. This is the cheapest SLI compatible DX10
card at the Egg :-) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814127285
