True. And there are some differences compared to the old days (when it was not yet optical). Its main advantage is that it is working on (almost) all OSses, so you are able to use the same mouse on your laptop, your gaming pc (if you're broke and can't afford a gaming mouse), your Linux system and even on your old Win '98 machine (to test whether your amateur game also runs on a low-end pc). A Mac is also posible.
Yet, it doesn't "feel' like a standard mouse IMHO.
