afaik are they use more energy and are more (in case of a 8800) expensive. And a 8600 is not an option since it is (afaik) not really that much better then a 3850 (and uses a lot more energy according to some benchmarks*). A 8800GT is also not a card that my rig will be able to use for 100%, since my RAM (pc3200) will be too much a bottleneck afaik. And let's not forget that a EUR 200+ card doesn't make sense in a DX 9 system.
So I won't even mention a 9600
So since it won't make sense in this case to use a GF 8xxx, wish to try out something else and the price (both price/perf ratio and the fact that I 'm not swimming in money), made me decide to flee to AMD.

* that in combination with the fact that ADA4800CD... (socket 939 version of the Athlon X2 4800+) uses 110W in full force is "displeasuring" me a bit
