Then make a dual boot setup. I have done that on both my desktop and my laptop and it works great.
When you install Ubuntu, that OS is quite friendly to other OSses on your system. Its installer simply makes two partitions for itself, without ruining Windows. It comes with the GRUB boot loader and Memtest86+ (to test your RAM).
