HL2 has breakable wood...And it's slow even offline, because CPUs can barely handle it...Let alone online too...It would be too much info sent for a useless visual effect...If anything, it would have to be client-side.
Anyway, on the plus side, Painkiller has brekable things online...So I'm sure other games will follow.
