i wouldn't think it to be bad cooling because my case has great cooling if you saw the link i had above.
though that doesn't rule out the possibility of the card overheating. see, if i try my friend's card and it works fine, then i know maybe the heatsink on my card doesn't have good contact or something, it would at least show me that something is wrong with my card (if his card stops the crashing).
