Keep in mind, the system I configured above is almost identical to Alienware's $2,000 system.

I was trying to build a system almost identical to Alienware's regardless of personal preference.
I don't where you have been but not ALL prebuilt computers are overpriced. For example, back in March I spent $350 on a Dell with an Intel Pentium 4 2.8C, 875P mainboard, 40GB HDD, 128MB of DDR-RAM, and no OS. 128MB of RAM is not much but I did not mind because I knew I could always add more memory and still be saving big time. Even if I were to add a monitor and a Radeon 9800XT, I would still be under $1000 for a decent gaming rig.
The analogy you made, "all cars are overpriced, why? because people dont want to build them thier self," is absurd. The reason is no one knows exactly how much it costs to build, for example, a BMW 325 coupe. The only price most consumers are aware of is the "sticker" price. Only people who do not do their research pay sticker price. If you know the invoice price than you pay $500 or 15% over invoice. Oh and if you knew exactly how much it cost BMW to make a 325 coupe, good luck having BMW sell it to you below the invoice price.
The reason why Alienware is overpriced has nothing to do with economics,
smartass. Instead it has everything to do with greed. Next time, try and hold yourself back and do without the smartass comment and the whole I-know-more-than-everyone-else-attitude. Then you won't get flamed in return.
