Writting an engine is tricky, but its not IMPOSSIBLE, and the render Code under DirectX is pretty damn simple too. god...your so damn ignorant.... and oy... forget it...

Yes Valve is nothing(literally) without HL, but they still have HL2 and HL.
HL started off as a game idea that was brought to sierra, and accepted, the quake engine was used because it was the best of its day(no real competators AT ALL) of course they would use it, it was a no brainer.

(O yeh, Quake2 is also 100% OpenGL, Source is DirectX)
