I think you should consider looking at an entry-level Nvidia card, such as a GeForce FX5700 LE 128MB 8XAGP Graphics Card, which you should be able to pick up for about Â£58.00 (including VAT). Choose a slightly older Nvidia card only due to the fact that it sounds like you don't play any new AAA games and Nvidia are reknowned for their compatibility with legacy software and games. This chipset will also provide somekind of rendering acceleration in CAD programs. Any graphics card higher than this then you will be wasting your money for features you may never use. It should be ideal for playing games that require OpenGL acceleration support, such as Half-Life, Counterstrike, Wolfenstein, BF1942, etc.
