AMD is the better choice right now, faster for gaming, just as(if not less) expesnive, and runs cooler too.
yeh the 3500+ would be good. try to go for the .9 micron. Newegg only has the 3000 and 3200 in .9.
but yeh the 3500, 3800, 4000, and even the Fx55 are the best for gaming.
3500 in .90 is $316 at monarch
However.. its intel counterpart is the 560.. which losses in the benchmarks to even the 3400(but thats .13 micron.. soo.. meh)
theres not much of a dif in .13 and .9.. but .9 is all s sweet
(the .9 is clearly better usally only by 3-5 fps
it however runs with less power(leakage) and should run cooler...

90nm is about 310. Your choice. My recommendation: wait and watch until newegg gets the 3500.. and wait a month more for it to flux down.
EDIT: just a little note.. 560 is WORSEthen the 3500(in gaming) by a decent margin.. and o yeh.. the 560 is 450-480 dollars.. that 280-316 is starting to look real good ain't it?
