About 6 month ago I decided to get myself a nice Logitech MX510 to replace my somewhat old, ugly and sticky Logitech Dual Optical which, I must say, served me fine for a year.
I really enjoyed the new MX510's speed and was all happy with it. Recently I saw the MX1000 in the store and couldn't resist. And, luckily, I'm glad I didn't.

I'm using the MX1000 since two weeks now and want to share my experience with it.

First of all some facts:
  • - 20x laser sensing
    - performes on all kind of surfaces well (even glass and polished tables)
    - built-in recharchable Lithium-Ion Battery
    - Wireless Connection with use of the new FastRF Technology
    - 4-way scroll-wheel
    - 8 programmable Buttons
    - Resolution of 800DPI
    - Calculates 5,8megapixel per second
The facts look impressive, don't they?

The package contains a Docking Station which recharches the Battery, a driver CD with the new SetPoint Drivers, a Quick Install Guide and a Handbook for proper use.
I installed the drivers off the cd after uninstalling the old mouseware drivers. That worked without any problem. Right after I checked the drivers on the net and it seems as as the ones on the cd are still the newest ones. That's good as I didn't have to install new ones, and bad as I couldn't figure out if a driver update may work without any problem. The SetPoint drivers which I had spoken of before do have a usable control center (SetPoint Mainmenu, Mouse behavior tab, Energy management (excuse the german :/ )). All buttons are programmable even to keyboardcommands as CTRL SHIFT K or else. The downside: The forward and back keys, which are very useful once you get used to them, didn't work from start on. I had to set them manually as "function keys", but after that, all did as it should.

The mouse is a bit weighty what may cause problems with your wrist if you're gonna use it 12 or 14 hours a day every week. The shape fits perfectly in my somewhat small hands even if it is bigger than the MX510. Speaking of the energy use: The battery is great. It lasts 6 days without recharge and heavy use (8 hours a day). There is a Off Switch on the Bottom of the mouse right next to the connect-button, but I never used it becuase if the mouse isn't moving for about 6 seconds it goes to the standby mode automatically. If you move it then, the mouse reacts immediately without any delay.

I did not notice any delay with playing games (Hitman, Doom3, GTA, ...) either so I can theoretically say it really IS a gaming mouse. No performancedrop from the MX510 whatsoever. HOWEVER there is a downside in either the Wireless Connection or the Laser Technoligy: If you hold the mouse up and the surface is out of the Laser's range (~0.5 cm) and you drop it quickly on the surface and move it, it won't react at all for a short time. That could be an extremly disadvantage in Competition Games (Q3, CoD, CS) if you're used to handle your mouse so. It doesn't bother me because I seldomly hold up the mouse for relocating and if so, I'm still in the range so the cursors moves.

Conclusion:
I really love that mouse. The performance is great and it gave me the trust in wireless mice back.

In addition some pics:

post scriptum: I apologize for my somewhat poor english.
Very nice.

Ill stick with my Dual OPtical. In CoD I have had some issues with it being a bit sticky. But Unless I decide to get the Mx510+a func im not going to bother changing.
