Should be able to just right click Half Life 2 in the steam menu, go to properties, and if it says Up to date, it's patched, or if it isn't, change the bar below it to Always keep this game up to date.

yeah i did check that, its always been set to keep game up to date, but you should see it updating after starting steam right and i've checked everytime , and no updates, game still stutters too i can't tell if its gotten better or not...it should stop stuttering completly if it was patch cause thats just bs......i wish valve would just admit that these GCF files are causing the game to act like this......
