[b]I loved all three: FarCry, D3, and HL2.
FarCry was great because of the freedom to roam and the detail of the surroundings. It was just plain fun to roam around and explore. The negative effeft was it became a little bit more fun to explore than to rather play the game. The sounds were awesome though. Crank up the bass and listen to the guns rumble your house.
Doom3 did have nice graphics, but with all the bump mapping, it sort of looked plastic. Every character was bulky and had a sickly yellowish color too them. In fact, all objects in D3 were very bulky, but the atmosphere was absolutely terrifying. The develoeprs did an awesome job of creating what they wanted hell to be like. A merciless place that will tear the flesh off your bones and scorch you for eternity. Brilliant!
HL2 was definitely my favorite because I loved the first game and I'm just very loyal to Valve now. The graphics were presented in a more realistic manner than D3, but maybe with not quite as much detail. However, everything was lit up in HL2 which was sort of a refresher after playing D3. As for the story, if you look at it as an end to the HL saga, then yes it sucked. One just has to hope that a third will be released that will explain everything as it always does with all trilogies. The sequel is always meant to confuse and the third installment always wraps thing up.
Bottomeline:
All games had awesome graphics, sound, atmosphere, and gameplay.
