I'd go with the ATI as it has a better imagequality and if you're working on it long, your eyes would appreciate it.
I just replaced a GF2mx from my sisters puter with a radeon 9200 and even though she's a complete pc noob she saw the difference.
You really don't need any power but imagequality, yes, I'd think it's important.
