Today I started to OC my Asus 9800XT. It all started out well but when I ran 3dMark01 it stopped and I had to manually shut down the comp. Then I went out for some hours and came back to my comp and then it rebooted as fast as I came into windows. I went to Safe mode to download Radlinker(I oced with ATITool) but I wasn't allowed to install it in Safe mode so I rebooted and now it won't even go through BIOS. It won't even beep and the screen is black. Can anyone help me please??
OOh dear that is not good mhm...So you can't even get into safe mode again? hm...hopefully Akh can help you...
Oooh. Try clearing the CMOS see if that'll help any.

Pull the battery to the mobo, pull the CMOS jumper. See if that helps.

How much did you OC it from the default values?
I know that on NVIDIA cards, when rebooting, press CTRL and hold it, should reset the clock rates to default speeds.

 Pull the battery and clear the CMOS jumper. I use to do it all the time when my overclocks failed. Simple fix
lol you don't need to pull the battery, thats why they put the jumper there dude...just clear the cmos jumper, if you keep pulling out and putting back in the battery your gonna mess something up, happened to me a long time ago on old mother board(snaped the little plastic tab that hold the friggin battery in) kinda sucked...lol

logger that is bad news,
Have you got a old pci/agp grfx card that you can plug in to make sure its not the 9800xt thats erm...fried?
Reading over your post i was hoping you hadn't used ati tool until of course you stated you had.
I marginally tweaked my old 9800pro using ati tool(memory 340-360)(core 380-390)
No matter what i tryed the default core/memory clock would not go back to default infact after rebooting the core/memory clocks ramped upto to 362/397.
Using radlinker i could set the core/memory to default ticking the box to save the settings on boot up although once rebooted the core/memory would return to 362/397.
I reset the cmos, reseated the card, reformatted xp pro, used various different drivers and oc'ing tools but nothing worked ALLWAYS defaulting to 362/397.
Any graphics intensive game(hl2,doom3,riddick,farcry)would crash within minutes of play leaving me staring at a black screen with the message can't find signal staring back.
I've read a few horror storeys involving ati tool i'd advise peeps to use a simpler oc'ing tool such as radlinker if they only want up the mhz of the core and memory.
Most peeps swear by ati tool but if you don't fully know what your doing it has to many pointless and dangerous options=more possibilty to screw your card.
In Techpowerups own words below is a change log of the latest"stable"version makes me think i wouldn't like to use an unstable version.
Wait on a minute i did use an unstable version and in return it screwed my card bigtime i just hope it hasn't nortoned yours.
Best of luck.

Well I cleared the CMOS and rebooted and it worked :) Before it nortoned up I uninstalled ATITool so now it's back to Radlinker. SOMEONE (Won't say any name) on this forum said that ATITool was good...... But lesson learned so we can all move on :D

Yeah id have to agree, a 9800XT doesnt need to be overclocked... its still a decent card by todays standards..

you positive you got rid of ALL your overclocking software and card is back to default speeds??
I don't know man, like I said before, you shouldn't OC if you have no need to, the hardware might be nortoned now, try reinstalling windows as a last resort, see what happens...lets hope you didn't fry your AGP slot or something, I've seen it happen before on my buddys system....lol he fried the norton out of it, you could actually see where it was burnt on the mobo.
good luck dude ;)
I overclocked my 9800 pro sometime ago, while not knowing what the hell i was supposed to do. Appearantly i've fried my videocard in the progress and it hangs just like yours. My card jams every 10 minutes or so in every game for 2-5 seconds.
In my opinion you overclocked your card so much (perhaps even above 430?) that it probably has the same problems as mine. Did you get blurry stripes while overclocking, if so.....
Good luck with it Hasse.

ATI tool works fine. Why the hell are you DLing stuff in safe mode anyway. Trying to bypass the admin rights on your daddys computer? lol

I told Hasse to oc 5 increments and then test it out see if he sees any artifacts, and then i guess he must have messed up. :Oo:

try this first go here (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) and d/l the latest version but dont run yet. remove all your ati drivers from the control panel then run the driver cleaner. install latest catalyst or omega drivers.

If you read my post right you would have seen that I couldn't use normal mode cause it only reboots so I used safe mode to d/l it....Asshole! :D
Edit: It's my computer ;)

Hasse, try to open you Case and clean up your 9800 you unscrew everything smoothly and you pull all the dust out. something like that appened to me about 2 months ago. i oced my 6800gt too much and my pc rebooted after 2 minutes playing hl2 . so i thought i had a little burn my GPU, and when i saw all the dust in it, i put it out and y PC works fine . try out this

I regularly have graphics problems. I have this very expensive, state of the art laptop which i bought for more than
2000 dollars. It is good for work, but the graphics card is soooooo crap and so outdated (ATI 9000 mobility radeon). I just don't understand why they put such crap in such a beautiful machine.

ATI Tool is probably the best overclocking utility for an ATI based chipset graphics card. Its extremely simple and leaves a small chance of error. Next time, try running the stability test (finding max clockspeeds without artifacting) and set the clock speeds a little below that. The result is a slightly overclocked card that will perform much better. I believe im running 395 core and 350 memory. Good day!
