Okay guys, I'm finally getting rid of me old AthlonXP 2600+, 512mb PC2700 DDR-Ram, My crappy MSI mobo and me 9600PRO.

And about time it was!!

So today the Mailman came and brought me a box. And when I opened the box I came across a

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Core

and a

ASUS A8N-E Mobo

a

X740XL, wich has a little more power than the X700PRO,

1Gb of PC3200 DDR-Ram

and to power all this madness a

Sweex 650Watt PSU.

I'll be putting it all together on monday so I'll keep you updated.

Not on DDR1. DDR2 is "faster" as faster clockwise but the timings aren't as stiff as DDR ones.
So: no, there isn't really.

I know the 650Watt is way to much for this setup, but I got for a really sweet price (37 euro) and this way it means that the next time I'll be upgrading my pc I won't need to replace the PSU.

Today I will be putting the whole thing together, so wish me luck (tis the first time I've done such a thing).
Ofcourse I'll keep you updates with pictures, pc/3dmark scores and everything, oh and today is me birthday  , finaly turning 18 :D

Happy Birthday for yesterday m8! Oh and nice new rig... hows the build going?

The Build started of pretty well, it was all very new to me and didn't really know where to put all those goshdarn wires. But finally
with some good help of our good friend 'the manual' I was able to get it all right (double checked offcourse). So I hooked up my TFT,
mouse and everything to get ready for the big moment.. So there I was standing in front this 'thing', moments away from pressing
the button that would lead me into a new era of gaming.

I pressed the button, and my system getting ready for some non-stop gaming, but then....

Not 3 seconds after I launched this beast into our world.. BANG!! My PSU was smoking more than hippies would on woodstock.
So I opened up this SANDPAPERING PIECE OF CRAP only to find out the WHOLE GODDAMN BATTERY nearly exploded, fluids came out and
the bitch was still smoking more than Berlin 1945.

anyways, after some time (and 2 gallons of beer) I finally came to my senses. So I'm gonna send this baby back tomorrow
and hopefully I'll get a replacement PSU within the "promised" 2 weeks..

i kind of agree... although you'd think that they'd make it a decent psu if it was a 650W, go figure.. Antec 430W is what I'd recommend  its what i have and i have a loggerload of stuff hooked up to it, and it still works like a champ

Sorry to hear the PSU blew up m8!

When you get your replacement, please feel free to MSN me for advice in hooking it up. I have 20 years experience with computers and have a degree in electronic engineering and computer science.

Hahaha...

This thread is hillarious to me, because as soon as you wrote that you bought the psu for that price, I said " that was a huge mistake". Then, as I continued reading, I see that it blew up.... I've never called a situation so well haha...

Go antec or enermax....the only psu's in my book.

okay guys, I need a quick anwser.

Will a Coolermaster 380Watt PSU do for my setup?

I am planning to overclock my Athlon 64 from 2.0Ghz to 2.2Ghz.

Hmm..I wouldn't buy a 380W...because 1) you're overclocking, and 2) What if you ever want to upgrade your hardware!?

450w, anything below 400w wont do you good for oc'ing, and make sure you got good cooling in your pc and lots of fans!
