I usually enjoy playing racing games and I must say that I've already played a lot of them, but I've never been attracted by the nascar games. Maybe that's because i'm not american, but I really don't see what's funny in driving in circles during hours...
Don't get me wrong, the graphics and gameplay in Nascar 2002 aren't bad, but it's just not my kind of game.
If you've played the previous Nascar games and enjoyed them, you'll surely like this one too. If you don't, grab the demo instead (check our demos section) and see for yourself why you won't like this game.
And don't forget to check our gallery (http://www.gamershell.com/imagefolio/cgi-bin/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Racing/Nascar_Racing_2002)
Score: 4/5 if you like Nascar games
2/5 if you don't
I did never understand nascar fun... and it's impressive the quantity of games relaying on nascar franchise.
Often they have great engines and top of the notch graphics, though they still result boring for poor europeans.

Any racing can be tedious to watch.
Watching a Grand Prix is exciting when 2 or 3 are abreast and come up on a hairpin turn. When they are nose to tail for lap after lap, it's pretty dull.
Same with Nascar, when they are all drafting through 200 laps, it's time to take a nap, but when you get down to the last 10-15 laps, things can get pretty dang interesting. Especially when you have cars rubbing against each other to muscle into position, something you don't see in Grand Prix.
The other day there was a Nascar race that ended with a photo finish. The car that won had about a 6 inch lead when they crossed the line. This kind of finish after a 200 mile race http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well two words for you:
RalliSport Challenge
This game rocks, incredible grafics, great physics(a little arcade but good) and many good places to run.
Also it can be played online.
Get it!!!!!

I'll be happy to explain the appeal of Nascar, right after you tell me WTF is so interesting about cricket http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Cricket is interessting (not if you watch all 9 hours of it), One of my mates plays for Yorkshire and he is an exellent player (70mph bowl). most people dont watch the whole cricket match ... just the highlights becuase otherwise its pretty damn boring.
p.s. ATLEAST CRICKET IS MORE UN-PREDICTABLE THAN NASCAR http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif

for one thing the le mans track is more than just a circle, and even though the drivers swap they are still very tired and that means there is plenty of room for errors. the cars look alot different with famous car specialists like: BMW, Mercades, Lotus and even Fiat. Is it just me or do all the Nascars have the same body work, just differnet paint http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I'm not a rabid fan, but I will give it a shot.
Your observation about the cars looking the same is on the mark, they are, in fact, identical. The build of the car is set by Nascar. The purpose of this is to keep the cars very close together in theoretical performance, which is why it is possible for cars to finish a 200 mile race within .001 second of each other.
Notice I said theoretical. Now add in the performance the style of a particular driver, the performance of the pit crew, the track conditions, etc.
A lot of people seem to look down their nose at Nascar as being a "redneck", or unsophisticated sport. The reality is that it is a very subtle sport, which is why people who aren't familiar with it don't get it.
The nuances get crazy.. does driver A tend to wear his tires too much early in the race and therefore have to pit out of sequence... did the guy putting fuel in the car slip as he was jumping over the wall and lose .1 second in the pit? These things can win and lose races!
I really enjoy watching the different strategies unfold. Here is a scenario that I have seen happen more than once:
Coming up on the final 15-20 laps in the race, and the fuel situation for eveybody is touch and go. Decisions about pushing for the finish or pitting for a "splash" (just a gallon or so) of fuel to make sure that the car can finish are being made.
Driver A, who is leading the race, pits for a few seconds to take on the gas, while driver B, in 2nd place pushes for the finish line. They end up with Driver B coasting across the finish line, out of gas, a fraction of a second before A comes roaring up on him. Gotta love the suspense http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You asked for it....
How in the ##)(*&$%)( can you possibly call a game that lasts 9 hours a sport? Are you people really that insane?
I guess EA will never make a sim for that! http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It only lasts nine hours becuase there are intervals between each bat and bowl, they stop it at certain times, its can last 2 days if all the batters are not out in some cases. Also even tru fans of cricket dont wach all nine hours, just the highlights, and if there at the match you just sit around and drink, and becuase it 9 hours, your soo pissed you only remeber 5 of them http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
In my little opinion nascar is a very boring sport, as for cricket it is a bug not a sport! http://www.gamershell.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
