errrmmm...

You think that is bad?

This is gonna sound out there, but feel free to check it out on your own.

I know an American girl who married a Swiss guy and moved to Switzerland. They have a kid, and the government has to approve the kid's name.

Factual.

Honestly, ever since that "Liberty Fries" incident I wouldn't be able to say who's worse... No offence to you yanks, but "French Fries" being renamed into "Liberty Fries" all over the country AND in the congress's cafetery was one serious blow to America's rating from the side of other countries (including your neighbors up North)... It was dumb, unprovoked and I could give a million and one other adjectives that could be used to describe it... The French at the same time are only fighting for the purity of their language, which is understandable... I wonder how you guys would feel if English words would start getting replaced by French words all over USA....

Just my 2 cents from someone living neither in France or USA, feel free to flame me back :D

I don't think so. I was born in Russia, and at the moment my Russian is almost as good as any other Russian's, no matter that I was brought to Canada when I was 9. I'm pretty sure my kids will be able to speak Russian as well. All you have to do is watch after your own language and make sure your descendants get to speak it as to, since language and culture are two pretty close things... If you watch after one, the other one will stay as well.

Dennis S., like it or not, English seems to be the language of international communications - see - you are not a native speaker, I'm not a native speaker too... We both speak Russian (although I am not exactly good at it), but we communicate in English (I'm going to take TOEFL on Wednesday - wish me luck, everybody! ). The Internet, movies, even videogames - everithing is in English.

I'm not saying we should forget our native lanuages, but without English we simply can't do it out there.

Good luck m8, altho I don't think you'll need it (judging by the quality of your written English, you don't need luck to pass the test).

As for us being unable to live without English nowadays - that's absolutely correct, but it's still not a good enough reason to give up on your language... I don't think you want to give up Bulgarian and start talking only English with everyone and especially your family, do you? :)

Note that it was banned on GOVT. level only, regular people are still allowed to and will use the word e-mail.

sorry dennis but if you take a second look at english you will see it is the bastard tounge of the world and a complete jumble of other tounges including german spanish danish italian latin and french mostly german though as it is a germaic language and not latin based

so i don't realy think we yanks could realy give on hot sh*t about having other language's words incorperated into our own hell we call a limited item menu a tableu deu (piss poor spelling)

but tis just my humble opinion
