I am buying a graphics card soon and I just want to ask a quick question.
I have a choice between the X300 and the 9600, I just want a straight-forward answer as to which is the better card.
Which one is one-up from the other?
On the ATI site it isnt very clear about which are the latest cards, etc.
Thanks.
Merry Christmas too

Why do you say that?
Oh, and I'd like to point out that the X300 is 128mb. Where as the 9600 is 256mb, which would be better? You know, pros and cons sort of thing.

I would say to look for some independant benchmark results and compare them, and then see which one offers the best price/performance ratio.
And allthough the x300 is a newer model than the 9600 it doesn't always mean it's better!

just because a video card has 256 megs doesn't make it a better/faster card! I haven't heard much about the X300 yet so you better look into it, but what I do know is the memory don't mean nothing, its like saying an FX5200 256mb is better than a 9800pro 128 mb... ;)

Unless you have a MoBo that supports PCI-E then you can't even have the X300 :)
So the only choise left is the 9600

I am buying from Dell, and you have a choice of video cards.
They wouldn't sell the ones that are listed there if they werent compatible with the rest of the machine.
I want to play games like MOH:PA, Brothers In Arms and LOTR: Battle for middle earth.
The computer Im getting has P4 Processor, 1GB Ram, 80 Gb Hardrive.
So for me, what would be the best card, considering that the X300 is 128mb and the 9600 is 256 mb.
Merry xmas.

Please explain your answer as to why the X300 is better.
Thanks, merry xmas!

IMHO- in my humble opinion
LMAO- laughimg my ass of
Oh and MOH:PA is pure crap
And if you get the "right" 9600 or pro you can push it to 9600xt levels or more.
But if you can spare a few bucks 9800se is a good alternative.

Ok, firstly I already know what LMAO means thanks.
Secondly, I didnt ask for an opinon of the AMAZING MOH:PA game.
Thirdly, "And if you get the "right" 9600 or pro you can push it to 9600xt levels or more" makes no sense in english.
And lastly, we are not all american, I dont use bucks.
I just want to know what the best card would be the chose, its alot of money at hand.
Which would be better for my computer specs (which I posted above), the 9600 with 256mb or the X300 with 128mb???
I have till this afternoon to decide,

WTF is with you man?? These guys are trying to help you but you just insult them! I don't like that! It's gonna mark you as an asshole if you continue like that. Just so you know

Where was the insult?
*cough* And the topic goes off track....
Don’t waste your time here when you could be investigating.
You do not give enough information for me to
really give an educated answer. Plus I’m not well read on the X300.
With the 9600 I’ll guess that it has a 128-bit memory interface.
With the X300 is it 64-bit, or 128-bit memory interface?
And just to make sure are we talking about the X300 and not the X300 SE?
Do you have a link to a Dell PC page for us to look at?
You can over clock (push) the X300 very well also-if you know how.
Even if the X300 is slightly better (?) you still cannot go wrong with
the 9600.
I don’t know what the future holds-only at some point you may even find some money to upgrade as prices drop.
With this in mind you may want to think of the 9800 Pro or XT AGP cards or X600
PCI-E card or…, the cost of these in the future and what they bring.
Oh and you did not miss the insult-Kacperski insulted MOH:PA.
I’m American and I don’t use bucks, so whats your point.
Is the Dell being purchased with currency?

1. You asked...
2.You wanted to play good games, showing moh:pa as an example...face the reality
3. Do you know what OC means?...What the maker gives is not all you can get, you can O(ver)C(lock) it, softmod (not 9600)it, flash it. There are many possibilities....
4. $ is only an example, it's easiest to use USD here, anyone can calc it to his currency...

The x300 and the 9600 are the same cards.
The only differance is in the Manufacturing Process:
X300 Manufactured in 0.11 micron ths for being a PCI-E card.
9600 Manufactured in 0.13 micron ths for being a AGP card.
X300 is using RV370 (Architecture) chip.
9600 is using RV350/RV360 (Architecture) chip.
That means, not much.
Search for some X300 reviews or benchmarks.
As for the 9600 is a good card. (IF you OC it)
You better look here (http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/x300/).
What I will be stating is that if you are moving to the new Intel LGA775 specification or the new Athlon64 PCI Express motherboard and you just need a basic 2D videocard, the X300 based alternatives on the market will make you more than happy. If you are even considering gaming, do yourself a favor and upgrade to an X600 if you want some decent playable..
@Knut both cards (X300 & 9600) >(NOT se/xt/pro) has 128-bit. (MBW)
Over all i think the 9600 is better, although you may find a good version of the X300 around as well. (doubt it)
BTW, the x300 came to replace the 9200 :suicide:

stop arguing.
If those are ur choices, forget the crap about 'generations' X300 is a budget card, 9600 is a mainstream card.
Technical 'stats' are utterly pointless at times. This is one of those times.
http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2281&p=5
Its not an arguable position. the X300 is nowhere near the 9600 in performance. Its a different level.
as for the 9600 normal and Pro? Ill let u guys figure it out.
(Also, you might want to try to get it from a 3rd party(HIS, Powercolor, Saphire, they are nearly ALWAYS better in performance(the other aspects? such as build quality? no clue))

dont wanna be rude or n e thing but why only get a 9600? i assume ur earning from a full time job
im 17 with only a part time job, and i still have to pay for stuff contributions to the house etc ..... and i just upgraded my pc in one go from a mid end pc i had b4.....now it never has to be upgraded again for another 2-3 years maybe longer ( that is if there isnt some huge graphics card leap that spawns some kind of insane mega graphics card that will end all graphics cards forever)
specs r pentium 4 3.5ghz
x800pro 256meg
2 gig of ddr ram
two 120 gig hard drives
few other things like top notch power supply duel layer dvd drive good quality case
also i hafta pay college travel and materials and stuff and i only get say £80-£100 a week....depending on how many hours im put down for
so y is it that the people who can afford it buy low end teahat stuff?
sorry again it just puzzles me now im probably gonna get moaned at
