pin less cpu?

what do you think of intels pin-less cpus?
since the pins are on the mobo w/ no insulation in between the pins
i think dust and EMI may cause problems.

and then there are those numbers ( 550,720 ect..) taged on p4's
now. as i read up on it, i found it makes cpu selection hard for the average person.
the lower nubers are better chips then the higher numbers, according to intel.
also the "the digits themselves have no inherent meaning"
acording to intel. rendering them more or less useless in my
opinion.

yeah, i hate it when only now they say like, Intel Pentium 520. then im like, yeah, so, what can it do than? no herz speed anywhere! really frustrating

The number thing is a bit strange. But we'll soon get used to it I guess. Many consumers dont know what a MHz is anyway, and buy ready made PCs from large electrical retail outlets who just group them as 'low-(can run MS word)', 'medium-(can run MS excel)' and 'high-end (can run games ie chess2000 or solitaire)'.

As far as I understand it, they want to group all 'Mobile Pentiums' as 7xx, all P4s with HT as 5xx, and all Celerons as 3xx. So they're classed in terms of family rather than performance. The last two numbers are incremental, so a 540 is better than a 520. But the gap in performance between a 560 and a 540 may not be the same as the gap between a 540 and a 520.

Its probably to bring it in line with the numbering for their motherboard chipsets or something. Most people will find it much harder. PC adverts were always in terms of GHz and 165x speed DVD-Rewriters and not motherboard chipsets! But the average person has always been screwed when it comes to computer hardware definitions, that is until they change their minds and bring out the Intel Good, Intel Better and Intel Bestest! :lol:
