hey there, your mate puts his 9800se on DVI or VGA? second: does he screw it well or not? then, be sure he 's got the last catalyst drivers instlaed. if all of these points are good, then go on hardware orums where you will maybe find someone who has had the problem. bye. keep us aware

Did he ever over clocked the card, or was it over clocked by default?
Who is the maker of the card? (Brand names like, Asus, gigabyte, club3d companies etc)

Did the card ever work?
Try mounting the card on another PC and see if it works in a different way.

Hi my mate is having problems with his new pc from tiny. He has a radeon 9800se. The problem is that when he boots up his pc there are loads of red dots all over his screen and this happens in games aswell. Also whilst in games alot of jagged edges appear. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

His specs are:
radeon 9800se 256mb
p4 3ghz ht
1gb ddr ram
300gb hardrive

He would send it back of for a replacement, but he already told tiny about the problem, their solutoin was to take it back for a week so they could sort it out. All they did was reinstall windows which didnt solve the problem! They returned it back to him and it still doesnt work. lol. He also made about £140 worth of phone calls to their helpline which they will not refund, so overall my mate is really pissed.

So any solutions to the problem will be appreciated.
thanks

I dont think its got something to do with windows, drivers or whatever. If the card performed like it should do and 1 week l8 its starts showing dots.....well....then you are in troubble...

Anyway you say it also starts up at the startup right?...well that means the moment that you turn on your pc / videocard your seeing these problems....that means no windowss or drivers etc .......its only showing your startup screen....

So basicly....your in not such a good position. Go back to the store and get another one. Let them check it out whats wrong....

I had this same problem twice!! with a gf 4200 ti 64 mb and a equal 128 mb.

Third card was perfect never had the problem again....

Well my mate has a tft moniter so i guess he uses dvi, secondly he has dx 9.0c and also the latest catalyst drivers.

id disable fast writes, i would also check the AGP voltage.. probably in bios, i think default is 1.5 or 1.55, sometimes at 1.6 my old FX5200 had serious artifacts in games, but no red dots... also if he has red dots all over his monitor it might not be ur video card at all... dead pixels maybe? and also try hooking ur monitor to the
vga plug instead of the DVI, u can get adapters for that if its a dvi only hookup. this doesnt sound like a driver problem, so check the agp slot for dust, and the monitor plug in slots for dust then give it another go.
good luck

The make of the card is unknown since there is no brand name on there, the gfx card was working fine for a week then suddenly went funny on my mate. My mate has got the latest catalyst drivers and i guess it is possible that the overdrive feature could of been enabled, but only by the default 7mhz. Im sure this wouldnt effecct it much, mind you i have a 9800xt and when the overdrive feature was on it screwed up the contrast in HL2 so I guess it could be a possibility. I will put his card in my computer soon to try it out. Well thanks for the help. Please if you have any other suggestions then please say. All help is appreciated.

Well remember that your mate has a SE card, slower card than yours and probably has poor memory makers on it, therefor an over clock by 7 MHz can do a lot to the card, try and reducing it to normal speeds, 7mhz won't be much of a difference since his memory type is probably weak. (DDR type memory, with 256 mb is a problem over clocking, since the timing is relatively long for the data to pass, over clocking it would only make it weaker)

If he infect over clocked it, even by little that could be the problem.
He should try to reduce the frequencies and test it again. Furthermore, you can check and see if the monitor is connected correctly, and perhaps use the "VGA" connector with a "DVI" converter.

I still got my 4200 (64) no problems. After I installed Arctic Cooling, it only got better.
