You will probably notice fps boost from about 1-4%. And yes, that's no big boost.
Anyways, I have overclocked my 9800pro to the 9800xt level (about 9% in both ramclock and gpu clock).

I boosted my 9800pro to almost xt status(im still running stock HSF combo) and didnt really notice a big difference. With ATI tool, it made it simple so I said why not.

i had the artic scilencer and was overclocking my 9800 pro, but then the damn thing broke, so i had to back the OC down because of heat. I also over clock my processor.

is that with a standard cooler and by any chance a Sapphire 9600PRO?
I'm asking because I don't really to what extent I can overclock my vid card, I now now have it at 445/500 over the standard 400/446

ur card broke so u backed down the oc....
i think that means it didn't break.
anyway, i used to overclock my 9800pro until i installed Catalyst 5.4, and i dont think the overclock tray tool is compatible with that driver, plus i havent goten around to reinstalling the tool anyway. I had alot of problems in games, especialy half life 2, invloving weird colors on directX9 lighting reflections. Since i stopped overclocking i'm problem free, and games run just the same, (i think)

Heres the link for ATITool's website: http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
and heres the link to download it http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ATITool_0.0.23.exe
To make sure you are overclocking safely find the max core and max memory, then set your overclock to something in between your stock settings and the max clockspeed so you won't see any artifacting.

It's the very own from ATI and i bought a zalman heatpipe cooler which takes the heat. I took the regular fan out.
And the standard of my gpu is 400/500

i got the X800XT and thats fast enough i put it back down to a pro sometimes to increases its lifespan and while we're on subject whats a bios flash good for
SprigganX
04-18-2005, 01:40 AM
A bios flash is for like, flashing the bios of the gpu chip to get to a different bios of the same chip to go to a higher advanced chip of the same chip.
(not explaining right)
example * 9800pro flashed to 9800xt, making it being a 9800xt.

yeah i thought it was something like that except a 9800pro to 9800XT i thought was a softmod i sorta understand it as they bring out new drivers for your card which make it better a bios flash is similar

I've overclocked my 9600xt just a little bit, but only the GPU so my gfx is at 530/600, but hey, it works just fine for me =)
Before christmas (when I got my 9600xt) I had a nVidia GeForce2 MX 32mb :lol:

Im going to save up for a 6600gt now, budget price for good performance.
discuss if its overclocking or not, but i enabled 8 pipes at my 6800 LE
(8 --> 16 pipes, 4 --> 6 Vertex Shader)
My old G2Ti is running with 50 mhz more corespeed (250 --> 300 !)

Overclocking GPU is a waste of time in my experience. I have a water+peltier cooled ATI 9800XT. OC'ing gives only a few extra FPS. Perhaps if the GPU was chilled to below room temperature then things might improve. I can't be bothered to install a more powerful peltier on the GPU at the moment though. It's currently cooled by an 80W peltier which lowers temp from 60c to 39c.

Overclock everything you can. Theres not much to gain if you're running fast equipment already, but its just so damn easy nowdays why not.
