Fireworks Help

I don't know if anyone would actually respond to this post. I am in web page design class and am working with Macromedia Fireworks MX for creating background images. I need to create 9 background images of my own design but with the simplicity of the program, it seems almost impossible. I don't really know much about this program but there are not many effects that you can use on an image using this program. That includes:

Blur
Gaussian Blur
Bevel and Emboss
Invert Colors

That is all I have to work with. If anyone knows of a place that I can download some patches to get some more effects to use then I would greatly appreciate and referrals. Thanks!

I wouldn't know 100%, because I haven't used fireworks extensively in over 5 years, but I will take a look at home this evening and post a quick tutorial on opening up the FX layers.

Well, I would appreciate that. Thank you! I am also wanting to download some various effects that you could use in Photoshop because we can't use Photoshop and the stuff that I am used to making are only usable from updates for the program or on Photoshop CS2.
