another thing id do is for what ever game you are playing look for a tweak guide..tweak guides its self might not have 1 but if you google you should find 1 for most any.game. and make sure your system is clean and fit run scanner for viruses and defrag and all of the good stuff..

i use my crt for good reason..but someday i will be stuck with a lcd with ungodly high native res. and will be pissed off for sure.. because you cant just lower res on a lcd like with a crt and have good quality graphics.. i can play most of my games at 1600x1200 and 85hrz.. but recording i drop to 1024x768 75hrz and is my desktop res too. make sure both game and desktop res is the same.. or if going to play and record in window mode.. make the game. 1 size or more smaller than your desk top res.. its more easy to use camstudio and the more small the more easy to record and less game lag while playing etc.. full screen record will kill ya..

i love my zdsoft.. i can set from many built in codecs. i use and is best for performance mpeg4 avi v2 i record at 10fps and mp3 audio to 512x384. i can set custom output res etc. and i can up or down crisp or quality up to 100% all of which helps for better performance and best vid quality i can manage.. and small file sizes.. a 5minute movie is about 50 to 56mbs and ready to upload to youtube as soon as i stop playing..no other conversions are needed..

10fps you say.. well ya.. its said 12.4fps is best for avi..but i cant custom set it. so 10 is close enough.. see using 10fps you might not see as much tracers or debris flying around or fast moving stuff like a chain gun spinning.. but my over all videos are better quality than a lot of them recored at more high fps and people do not have enough system for the high res they run and record program dont have enough options too.. but my vids are generally more clean and clear than a lot.. and haze fog and smoke type stuff is hard for recorders and player to render proper it does as best as it can. but many videos have blocking and interference or look poor..its not the recorders fault maybe..maybe the game or that area has lots of haze etc..the recorders or players cant play it back right etc.. but recording at 10fps helps a whole lot. and to just watch the game play in the video..you dont notice any differences..other than lil fast moving stuff like i said before.. so.

if i was to use fraps [a bud is said is going to send me a full copy of fraps from 2004 i think he said] id set it to record half size and 25fps. and lower my game res to what ever that half size video comes out to is no lower than 640x480.. if say you have to split what ever using wmm.. its best view from your computer codec and res is mpeg1 wmv 640x480.. next small size is 400x300.. but remember. if uploading to youtube it will convert again and resize to 425x305.. and you do not ever want to up size so..

you do have another option for free stuff.. get xfire if you do not have it already.. set it to half size and 25fps play and record say 4minute movies and then. upload them to xfire to view from your profile page..but. you have to do this to work with the videos..xfire tweaks its own avi codec and its hard to get programs that can work with it..so let xfire convert to its from recorded in game avi.. to mp4 and upload to its site and then from xfire program files and videos..you can remove the mp4 and upload to youtube or where ever and delete the videos from xfire site and your profile and program file too if need be.. but you will have same performance and large file probs as with fraps.. well at first..xfires mp4 is a way small file size.. way more small than my videos and it mp4 looks great during playback too..i wish i could use mp4 with zdsoft but i cant.. id say xfire is your best bet.. it dont take but a couple of minutes to convert and upload to xfire site. and the better the game settings quality to start with.. with out lag so you can play..the better the end product will be.. oh ya..some games record better and vids look better using dx8 and static lighting. this is very true trying to record stalker. stalker was originally done in dx8 and static lighting. you want good clear videos and good performance and no lag while trying to play..so dx8 is a good option..

if i do get that fraps program..i might use it for games like cod4 gta vc and bioshock..but again i can use xfire and less extra work as with fraps or desk top recorders and have to convert and all sorts of other stuff so.. but i do have both paid and free edit convert and split cut programs..id love to have sony vegas--but im too poor. living on ssdi and my state and medicare takes over half of that before i get whats left. and then i have to pay rent and eat.. so.i go hungry most of the time. note: i use zdsoft game recorder 2.0.1.0. zdsoft sells a do all desktop and game recorder now..it has less options than the last game recorder.. the new do all is more like fraps recording games.. few options.. but i can upgrade for life..so i have the latest version of zd do it all and still use the last game recorder too..you just cant run but 1 program at a time..i paid for it..and the do all just is not good enough for recording my games and options and performance..so..if you think of buying zdsoft game recorder..id try and buy 2.0.1.0 first. and later get the upgrade and second program for a desk top recorder etc.. im not sure where you can find 2.0.1.0 now..

maybe email or do a help support ticket at zdsoft..the owner answers fast and is a good guy.. maybe not say you will later want the do all program and run both..but insist on having 2.0.1.0.. again for 40 bucks.. its free up grades for life..so having both is not doing wrong.. i guess you understand what im trying to say.. its really not any better for recording games than zdsoft game recorder 2.0.1.0 period.. and you can add codecs to it. and other record programs will show in its drop down codec window..camstudio shows and works from zdsoft but xfires codec shows but will not work..its not a standard codec so..

i got my new mouse today. logitech mx518.. im trying to get use to it..its more heavy than my ms opti mouse. and its profile is more tall.. the way i play with my palm on the edge of my keyboard tray.. locks my wrist down i set my speeds etc so i have to move the mouse very little to hit any spot on my screen. so my palm stays pretty much in 1 place.. but its hard on my wrist and hand sometimes it starts to hurt because my palm/wrist is lower than my hand over my mouse..i do not rest on or grip my mouse with my hand high on it.. it feels better moves better just in my fingers and my palm rested on something soft like cheap mouse pads or now a keyboard jell thingy to rest your hands on.. the ms opti was a lil lower profile. so im trying to figure how i can elevate my palm and not have my wrist so jammed up and still be able to free move my palm and mouse while playing.. i cant have some mound to rest my hand on and the mouse kicks back on it and stops moving.. but if the mound can move with my hand and slid smooth and freely on the mouse pad well that would be perfect..

i tried a folded paper towel and 4 strips of cardboard in side it..it worked pretty good. but slides around a lot i have to adjust it often.. maybe a fingerless leather glove.. and build up the palm from inside the glove with some cloth soft cotton etc. would be good.. that way my wrist is not jammed. and rests more high and better can hold and use my new mouse.. i have to change up how i sit and hold mouse every so often to keep away from carpel tunnel how ever its spelled etc etc.. that lil bone to the out side of your palm where your wrist and arm connect can get sensitive and or hurt if not careful and can cause probs too if you do not change up from time to time..pading dont stop the pain either..free time does..but i cant go with out gaming. its all i have and all i care about..so.

cod- cod and uo record dark no matter what the in game bright settings are..i dont understand it..but its nothing ive found i can do..some recorders will let you adjust brightness in the recording.if i up brightness in game to much it looks like crap and washes out colors and dept etc. its best to lower bright and gamma a lil for more natural looking colors and textures etc.. so sorry if they are a lil dark..

as said on the first page..i love my pc fps or combo fps/rpg games. and plan to do complete video play throughs of all of my games..heck some games i might do multi video play throughs..mods or different characters.. and some games have multi endings etc. and its fact no 2 play throughs are the exact same. my play throughs are just 1 rendition.

mohaa. is the only 1 i have..id like the moh collection tho. my bf 1942 collection stuff was buggy and mp would not work i returned it..i have bf2 but never really liked it..i might give it another go someday..but i dont think it has a real sp game..more like practice maps etc.. i cant remember now..i have not installed it in like 3 years now..

later ea started adding in game ads. and my nfs stuff was always buggy. and people complain a lot about most all ea games..i dont care for mass effect either.. i dont think i will ever buy from them again.. they seem to be 1 step above gsc. i think the worst game ever or ive owned is stalker..but i played stalker some 40x with different patches and mods and vanilla. waiting on them to do what they promised and hope the would polish stalker off too..that never happened and became clear sky..another bug feast..stalker was no more quality than the 2004 beta 1935..

my game would not work out of the box..saves would not work and all sorts of other crap..i could not start to play it really until patch 10003.. most all of my friends some 20 folks never got past a few levels and never tried again.. you learn a new skill with that game..the art of keeping stalker from crashing..and replaying areas over and over again for missions to work right and so you can play on etc..other than ea stuff..all of my other games run perfect.. i will never buy from ea or gsc again..

Thanks for the info. I think I will indeed lower the desktop resolution to 1024x768. The monitor is a 17" lcd with a native res of 1280x1024, so that should be okay.
Though it stays remarkable that I can use that trial version of Fraps with full size and 25 fps, without having to lower the resolution or game settings.

Anyway, I will know whether your tips work within a few days.

Since you love WWII games, ever thought about Company of heroes? Although it's an RTS game, it offers a lot to FPS fans. I believe a demo can be downloaded here.

yes you can record at full screen.. but that dont mean your system can handle it..just because it there dont mean it can work magic..and you might have to lower to 800x600 res as i said.. its lots of trial and error and testing..and what might look great on your computer if uploaded to say youtube might look like pure crap and you have to tweak and test some more..

its not rocket science.. its just common sense stuff.. again xfire would be the ticket if you do not want to spend any cash..
