BF2 reinstall problems

I uninstalled BF2 to get rid of the patch, and re-installed.

I had problems getting into servers under the original install, but with the patch, as bad as it could be, I ran into far fewer connection problems.

After uninstalling the game and re-installing, I can't enter a server. Every time I get a "There is a problem with your connection" message.

Any tips?
