Mac and PC

I know that the programming language for a mac is completely different from the pc.
However, I was wondering whether people with a Mac can play online versus PC players when they have the same game (battlefield 1942 for example)

many games that are out are that way. For example, warcraft 3, world of warcraft, Unreal Tournament 2xxx, Black and White, Doom 3, etc.
