Fahrenheit (indigo prophecy) demo won't work

everytime i try to start the demo i get the following notification:" failed to create Direct3D object. Call Stack: "

Do you have the latest DirectX?

my directx version is 9.0b (4.09.0000.0903)
i tried to update but this loggerty windows of mine just won't do it. says everything's updated but when i check the version it's still the same.

Hmm try installing DirectX 9c. I checked the requirements for the demo and that seems to be the thing you are missin

that's nortoned up. cause my windows just won't update to 9.0c. i try several times
