Steam Validation Rejected

Ao, there's this problem I have. Whenever I try to start a server for a third party mod, like Garry's Mod or Strider Mod for HL2, I get this Steam Validation Rejected error. So I looked it up and found a way to get past this. Unfortunately noone of the servers I make are on any server list. Does anyone have this problem, and have they fixed it?

are you shure you haven't selected lan-server instead of public ?
