Could be a number of things. I had 1Mbit cable before. Then I upgraded to 8 Mbit...but was getting low speeds. Turned out the cable from cabelmodem to router couldn't handle more than 1 Mbit...weirdo problem. If the problem persists, call your ISP.

Had the same with my cablecompany, they never delivered the modem so i took another internet connection, 8mbit ftw

DSL is not good for gaming....that just the plain fact about it. There is lagged involved with sending packets/recieve packets. You dont notice the lag when trying to find some new porn because it may just be 1/2 a second...but in a game that translates to a ping of 500. Yes downloads are fast too, but the constant sending/recieving that DSL does is not good for gamers. To get the best preformance out of your online gaming I would go with cable internet(if you can).
