Hi all. I've just recently downloaded the game Alien Arena 2007 from Gamershell, but my anti-virus scanner keeps saying the game's exe (GALAXY.EXE) is infected with a worm?

I've looked on Google, and there does appear to be a file with the same name that is a virus. Can anyone tell me if the game is infected, or is it just a coincidence that they have both got the same name?

It might be that my virus scanner is getting the two files confused. Can someone confirm it for me?

Av's responding to gamefiles when they are unpacked is not uncommon. We get about 20-30 people yearly who report these problems and none of them have had actual real virusses installed yet. All files here are checked before release and shouldn't have anything in them. GH doesn't have any interest in sending virusses to people anyway.

I downloaded and checked the file quickly and coulnd't find anything with Kaspersky but that shoulnd't mean there's nothing present. Just use your own instinct and if you don't trust it then don't install.

I just downloaded, it and scanned it with 3 different AV's, no virus found. I think there has been only like 1 case ever packed a file with a virus, and it was purely by accident. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, but always trust your instinct, because I know how much it sucks getting a virus.

I didn't think it was a virus, either. The virus's name that is picked-up, is called: W32/IRCBot-based!Maximus.

I'm in the UK here, and the virus scanner I'm using is bundled with a program called: NTL Netguard Security. I've downloaded many games/demos from Gamershell, and have never had any problems with viruses.

So I'm going to take a chance and install it.

Great site by the way. The best on the net for reviews/demos in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback.
