problem with GTA SA

hi, i just wanna ask some few questions...

1. how can i know what version or mod I'll be using... because i tried to use the 3 available mod's for GTA SA yet it still encounters some errors... is there any way knowing what version am i using

2. every time i play the part where Catalina is in my mission., well my mission is to take over the tanker stuff.. but theres a problem, Catalina always shoot Mr. Whittaker and i cannot continue it agian... is there anyway to fix the problem... thanks a lot
