Hi there

Having an issue on colin macrae DIRT

Heres my issue hope it helps

* installed new nvidia drivers
* reinstalled game aswell
* im sure u will see it but im running SLI
*I also disabled the music

It takes ages to start up then when it does the menus will freeze up for a certain amount of time and then work again suddenley .
After the menus when u start the game the graphics looks as if it was smashed in like a glass that were shattered to the inside thought it was a driver issue but that just made it worse

Any ideas will be appreciated
My last resort will be to reinstall windows :P

I am running the following

Cpu : 3.8 Amd 64 bit
Mem : 2 Gig
Graphics : 2 x 6800 Gt Sli
Sound : Sounblaster Live

Well, Nvidia has been reported to have some issues running sli properly in Vista. That's supposed to be solved 2 months ago though and of no importance if you are running Xp (are you?)

No clue, tried the latest game patches I assume?

Try updating your display drivers.

i disabled the soundcard and it is working better

I then decided to rather clean up the whole machine and make sure any other problems are out of the way
I formatted the machine and did a clean install of windows firstly i wanted to see if it cant be maybe SP2 u never now i only loaded graphics drivers the SLI didnt wanna work properley so i installed SP2 rather :P
After the instralation of SP2 the graphics drivers were installed again NOTE no sound
i installed the game and experienced still a little problem of freezing up on the menus but inside the game it was fine
i then installed the sound drivers the game started to freeze up again and when i tried to play a game it will just freeze up or gimme the error of nv4_disp
So in conclusion there is nothing wrong with the graphics its the sound

what can i do?

If you can navigate to the in-game gfx options, you might want to turn off Anti-Aliasing and disable Motion Blur and HDR. Your gfx setup is not up to the job. Also you might want to enable all of the Nvidia optimisations, such as LOD, Anisotropic and disable AA. This game is really intense on the GPU... even I had trouble initially and I have got a very good setup.

If you are running on-board AC97 specification audio I would recommend you make sure that you have any hardware accelerated audio options disabled and do your best to get a new soundcard with EAX support, like the Audigy2SE or one of the XFi boards. Prices start at about 25 quid online.

If you already own a creative product, go to their website and run the software autoupdate feature.

BTW DiRT is the best racing game on the PC. The 4WD rally stages are awesome! :thumbup:

I completed it on Pro and am on the last set of Rally Championship races and have not had a single crash (As in game, not the car!). Running on full settings, 4x AA and 16xAF (Forced in Nvidia CP) and Ultra Shadows. I have the latest XFi and Nvidia BETA drivers on Vista x64.
