I've been thinking about buying Bioshock, but based on my experience with the demo I'm not really sure. What I want to know it's if all the game crashes have been fixed on the retail version, or if I'll have to play it on minimum settings. My system is seriously behind the times, but it's not like I'll never buy a new PC, and when that happens I want to be able to play this game at least without it crashing to desktop every 5 minutes.

Never crashed once the whole time I played it (everything on high except dx10), my pute (when I played bioshock) was so old it could have spawned the dinosaurs (Asus crosshair, 4600x2, 2GB DDR 800, 7900GS, 4x320GB, Benq 22")

Can't complain if your rig ain't up for it, ... it's not like the world is going to wait for Elvis to enter the building ;)

Well I have all of the newest hardware and I haven't had
any problems playing Bioshock. It works GREAT. My only
problem is finding the time to play it. I wish I was 16, I
wish I was 16. HeHeHe :-)

Well the same goes for me thesedays. Oh how I wish I had all the disposable time and income I had those many years ago! My PC is now unplugged and living in a box whilst I move house. After all the wait for Crysis and HL2-Ep2 I am going to miss the bloody launch dates.

Anyways, back to OT. Bioshock never crashed from start to finish. If you are running an Nvidia card then it is likely to be a driver incompatibility issue. The 2 latest driver releases from Nvidia have specific fixes and optimisations for Bioshock in DX9 and DX10 modes... so go to www.nzone.com and give them a shot. The last few levels of bioshock are absolutely awesome and the story line is AAA top dollar.

Well, it's a chicken-egg situation here. I do have the time to game but I'm unemployed right now so I don't have the income to buy the hardware and those new games I'm also dieing to try.

About the crashes, the game crashes specifically when I enable the High Detail Shaders and the High Detail Post-Processing. And I'm not alone. Pay a visit to 2K forums and you'll see a lot of people with more than capable rigs are having the same problem. On the other hand, I'm happy to ear there is people having absolutely no problem with this game, it gives me hope that I'll eventually be able to run it when I get a better PC.

About the drivers, I already tried the Bioshock Beta drivers and those didn't fix the problem. I'll try using the lastest certified drivers (wich I understand are the same beta drivers, besides the certification) and see if they work.

Better tell us the specs of your pc, then we might be able to help you. B)

By the way, the Bioshock demo ran perfectly on medium (!) graphics on my middle class pc:
- AMD Athlon 64 (single core) 2.2 Ghz
- 1024 Mb DDR RAM
- Windows XP Home Edition, service pack 2
- Nvidia Geforce 6200 SE Turbocache (256 MB)

But maybe you should check wether you put off DirectX 10 features, they might be partially the cause.

You're all gonna kick my ass but ok, here are my specs:

Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
1GB Ram
XFX Geforce 6800 GS/XT 256MB
nVIDIA forceware 93.71 forceware (maybe here is the problem, I still have to try the new drivers).

(as you can see there is no way in hell that DX10 can be the problem here . But now that I think about it, you only beat me on the processor. I even kick your butt on the videocard )

Just as a side note, I can't play games on 1024x768 because they restart after a while. It can't be overheating because a intensive game as Farcry in 800x600 (max details) gives me no problem compared to Splinter Cell 1 in 1024x768.

Look, I know my PC is SERIOUSLY behind the times, and that I'm crazy if I want to play Bioshock or even Pacman on this rig, but what I'm really worried about is of buying a new PC and not getting to play this game because of crashes. I say this because 2K forums are filled with posts of people who can't get to play the game on their more than capable rigs.

As I said before, I'm happy to know there is people who is having absolutely no problem with this game. Maybe I'll turn out to be one of them.

Here's my Spec.'s, I'm always willing to show off :-)
C2X QX6700
EVGA 680i SLI
2X 1GB PC2 8500
2X XFX 8800GTX
2X WD sata 80GB HD Raid0
2X Maxtor sata 250GB HD Raid0
CM 1250w PS
Vista 32-bit Home Premium

If your games are crashing to the desktop your card is either overheating
or it's about to die. Trying some different drivers would be a good idea.
I've seen more than a few drivers that would cause my cards to run hot.
I've even seen them clock my cards at the wrong speeds, which can
cause overheating.
