Need Help Building a pc

How do you overclock?, and is it possible to Overclock a GF 4 MX 420? or a 1.4ghz AMD?, because this could save me time and money

Its pretty simple syanide:

For your VGA: the Geforce4 MX 420 . download the latest version of powerstrip
a great tool for overclocking but be aware you must only increase your Memory/GPU clock by 10 % or else you will say goodbye to your VGA :P
if you notice unusual graphics problem( artifacts) while playing games try to decrease your MEMO/GPU clock speed, try to run benchmarks to see the difference in framerates and if its worthy to overclock.

For your CPU: you can either increase CPU's Front side bus or increase the multiplier
You have an Athlon 1400 with a front side bus of 266 MHZ so the multiplier should be 5x
Go to the Bios and Browse To the CPU settings, try to increase first your front side bus a little ( that if you can do it from your bios) reboot your PC and if it reboots well, congratulation then you have did it . But its not over try to run benchmarks to see if your pc is stable and so one.....

BUT DONT SCRUE UP YOUR PC, if you are doing it for the first time then PAY ATTENTION NOT TOFIRE UP YOUR PC :P

oh and btw anyone know any sites with "how-to's" to overclock your video card? I was thinking about overclocking it to 9700 "pro"

The difference between an ATI 9700 and 9700PRO is that the first has a 128 bit memory bandwith and the other 256 bit memory bandwith ( and of course difference in MEMORY/GPU clock speed )

This is a Pretty Nice System that Lotus describes, and I have to agree with him with the parts that he suggests. This is the exact Motherboard and memory and CD Burner that I have used to build countless systems for people. It is a good buy for the money, and I have had no problems with any of them. Although I would suggest to upgrade the BIOS (if it isn't current with what is already available) for there is a Memory Compatibility Issue with certain memory (but I believe that is in the 512 Meg DDR memory, not the 256). The Lite-On CD Burner (although a little more than what you originally wanted to pay) is by far the best CD Burner out there on the market, and the Price can not be beat for what you get. The Onboard Sound has the capability for 6.1 sound and works great right out of the box. The G-Force 2 On board video is a little weak (compared to using a video card with what is currently available), but again right out of the box is a good video. Onboard LAN is already there, so this saves you the cost of having to purchase a network card, and iuses the standard RealTek Drivers. The case you can pick up anything, but I would suggest a minimum (since it is an AMD) of 350 but suggest a 400 Power Supply. What Lotus suggests is what I would also recomend for what you are looking for. Hope this helps 2nd the opinion of Lotus.

yea i figured that the on board sound would keep me going until i have money for the Santa Cruz card =) i already orderd the parts so i could upgrade the PS in the future ,is that possible? Oh and i forgot i orderd a radeon 9700 ATLANTIS from SAPHIRE instead of the POWERCOLOR one becaus i heard very bad things about POWERCOLOR

i came from work and seconds later the fedexx guy was here =) i didnt unpack anything jus yet plus today i really feel like shit =( oh well
