Hi

I have a real problem with Bioshock - its jerky and choppy even on the lowest quality setting. I have a ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 card on my Dell laptop, and the rest of my system meets the requirements for running Bioshock. Is there anything I can do to make the game playable?

Any advice appreciated

Adam

Try getting the latest drivers for your videocard. Try to keep in mind that meeting the minimum requirements of a game doesn't always mean you will be able to run it. Tons of other factors count as well like, does your antivirus need to much memory. Anyhow, check out the page I wrote some time ago on this topic, linky!

Yeah, a good cleanup and defragmentation would help a lot. Also, do not run your laptop on the battery when playing BS, because when you do so power saving is in effect (decreasing your lappy's performance). By the way, what virus scanner are you running? For example Norton is not suitable for gamers, because it is such a heavy program.

@ Gazz: AVG is free, but in PC Active it got only 2 of 5 points. If you prefer a free scanner, you should use Avast! (3.5 of 5 points, I believe). Or choose for McAfee, not the lightest scanner, but still a program realising it is not "running alone". The dev tream responsible for it, tries too minimize hindering your system's other processes. The same is true in case of updates, only a small percentage of your connection is reserved for downloading them. It is not the lightest scanner, but for the protection you get it is really low. And the right to install it on three pc's, for about 70 euros is not that much . If you wish to install it on 1 or several aditional systems, you can buy the right for updates online, for 5 euros per "extra" pc.
