Default Gears of War installation/game play issues

I have recently purchased Gears of war and installed it OK and the game will load but as soon as you go through the opening movie sequence and try to play the game your character starts to spin round uncontrollably and the game is unplayable. I had a similar problem with Medal of Honor Airborne but resetting the controls ij the game every time I played it fixed it which was a pain but it worked. Nothing I have tried on Gears of War has worked including reinstalling. I have played other games with a high systems requirement no problem such as Bio Shock and Call of Duty 4. My PC is an Intel Quad core 2.4Ghz with 2Gb ram and a Nvidia 8800GTS 320Mb graphics card running Vista Home Premium. Any thoughts on what might be causing this and any fixes that might be available.

What mouse do you have?
Do you have drivers installed for it?

I heard about something like that before.

Do you also happen to have a Joystick, steering wheel and/or Joypad installed as well?
One of these could be stealing preferences. If so unplug them all while you play and see if this fixes it. If it then works trying hotplugging each one at a time to find the culprit.
