stalker version?

having big problems with stalker, particularly with saved games and version patches. installed it from dvd purchased around christmas. what i really need to know is what version i am running but cannot see any mention of it. or doesn't it matter? if i have version 1.003 then put in version 1.001 and go on from there would it work? or if i have 1.001 and put in 1006?

You could try looking at the properties of the .exe file...

It does actually tell you on the main menu at the bottom of the screen and in the options screen somewhere near the non-working Internet update button.
