Well, a new cpu of that type will be hard to get in the US as well. So probably I will look for a secondhand one. Though I will appreciate it, when you post a reply here when you find a store still selling it.

If you are willing to step down there is something like this ...
STARMICRO INC. - Detail Spartan Technologies has a PULL 4800+ for $424 plus shipping! WOW! Getting raped on a second hand CPU! The thing should be going for $200. |

I will post a thread when the upgrade is completed. Planned for this summer: CPU, RAM, PSU and Graphics card (probably a 512 Mb Silent ATI Radeon HD 3850).

The point is that I have 256 Mb (increasble to more if there is some unused RAM) GeForce 8400 in my laptop. And it is really dissapointing me. Actually, the only GF 8 cards that can be called good, are the 8800 models. But they cost way to much for me, since I am merely a student and planning an elaborate upgrade (like said before). Okay, a GF 8600 might be a nice one too. But they don't have any real advantage to a Radeon HD 3850 (or ....70), while several "gurus" (both here and in pc magazines) say that a GF 8600 has a lesser price/performance ratio (than a Radeon HD 38..). But correct me if I am wrong.
