Default C&C Gold -- HELP!

Hey everyone! Im new to GamersHell.com and not very good with computers either [one of my many character flaws, haha]. In August 2007, im supposing that EA releaced
" Command And Conquer Gold " edition to the public for free on their website and then moved it to FilePlanet.com for FREE downloads of it in honor of a new Command And Conquer game they were releacing.

My brother and I loved playing Command and Conquer back in the day, but after we lost or broke our disc [cant remember, its been so long], we couldnt find a replacement. I think this is a great idea by EA to releace this old school/classic game.

But theres one problem.

I downloaded the files from fileplanet.com and they all came in an zip folder that I saved to my desktop. But I dont understand the installment instructions... It says in the word document in quote.

"1. Insert either C&C disc into your CD drive"

Heres the entire instruction manual::

INSTALLING AND RUNNING C&C GOLD ON WINDOWS XP

Follow the instructions below to install and play C&C GOLD

Preparing to Install
1. Insert either C&C disc into your CD drive
2. Open My Computer and explore the CD
3. Right click either the install.exe or setup.exe
4. select PROPERTIES
5. Select the COMPATIBILITY tab
6. Check the check box for “Run this program in compatibility mode for”
7. Select WINDOWS 95 from the drop down menu
8. Click APPLY then OK
9. Double click the .exe file you just modified to launch it

Installing the Game
1. When you’re prompted to update DirectX, uncheck the check box so you won’t install it. It is extremely important not to install this DirectX update
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
Note: Installing Westwood Chat is not required, it can be canceled if you desire

Installing the Patch
1. Visit ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/ccgold and download CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP
2. Unzip the files and copy thipx32.dll into the install directory of the game (default path is c:\WESTWOOD\C&C95). You may overwrite the old version of the .dll file

Preparing to Run the Game
1. Go to the install directory of the game (default path is c:\WESTWOOD\C&C95)
2. Right click C&C95.exe
3. Select PROPERTIES
4. Select the COMPATIBILITY tab
5. Check the check box for “Run this program in compatibility mode for”
6. Select Windows 95 from the drop down menu
7. Check the check box for “Disable visual themes”
8. Check the check box for “Turn off advanced text services for the program”
9. click APPLY then OK

Playing the Game
1. Select Start > All Programs > Westwood > Command & Conquer 95 > Command & Conquer Windows 95 Edition. Or double click C&C95.exe located in the install directory (default path is c:\WESTWOOD\C&C95)

*Command & Conquer is not online compatible

I thought this game was downloadable over the internet.. and thats what every other website is telling me [not people but just their news archives/instructions]... it feels like it was since it took nearly an hour and a half to get it done with a very fast internet connection...

Could some one please respond, we are getting very fustrated with this =(.

P.S. Thanks everyone who read this post, and to those whom we hope respond with a solution!

Ok it looks like just a couple moments ago a website FINNALY told me to "burn" the files located within the .zip to a CD I would install to my computer. I procceded to find a free downloadable CD burner, and found a program named " Burn4Free. " Now my second dilema is how do I transport the files from within a .zip folder to another program like Burn4Free?

You need to extract the files in the zip to a folder using a program like WinZip

Thanks, Interman.

I just extracted my files, now I just got ISO Recorder Power Toy v1 with Burn4Free CD & DVD item -- Do I just copy and paste my .ISO files onto the main screen of this program and then begin the burning process or is there further steps to take?

Eh? It looks like the Burn4Free CD & DVD program does not work and the ISO Recorder Power Toy v1 was only an additional tool to help with an actuall CD Burner of ISO standards.. I finally found a good CD ISO Standard Recorder called BURNCDCC after looking at a forum link deep deep in google embedds Download of the Day: ISO Recorder.

"I would also recommend BurnCDCC from TeraByte Unlimited :: Boot Manager :: Partition Manager :: Drive Image :: Disk Copy :: Drive Wipe :: Hard Drive Utilities , who also produce the best boot manager I've found called BootItNG. Click on the Free Software link in the Downloads section. The nice thing about these ISO burner programs is that they don't bring along any extra baggage. I have Easy Media Creator, which also has an ISO burner, but I like using BurnCDCC as a quick solution."

Im not sure though how it works.. Theres a read-me saying I should save this file onto my hard-drive.. but im thinking why would I need to save it to my hard-drive when ive already saved it to this computer to actually access it? -- Why would they even say that in the read me in consequence?

Ill attempt again to re-write / burn the CD

I normally use Nero – Nero 8 - Trial for burning stuff. There are simpler apps, but Nero always works well. After installing fire up Nero Burning Rom, close the window that lets you choose between data cd, audio cd, cd copy etc, go to file, open, and open the .iso file. The default values should be fine, so just click burn.

Hey everybody,

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that interman has provided a very effectice CD Burner, which is going to flow with the bad news.

The bad news is my other application of BURNCDCC works, but it only wokrs for only one file per CD. This means you cannot effectivly load something onto your comptuer if it requires all files such as Command and Conquer.

But nonetheless, thank you much again Interman! Just saved me another 4 and 1/2 hours of searching the internet "jungle" for actuall accable information. This website is proving to be a very informative and effective internet address for computer knowledge that can actually be read by a person with so many character flaws as my self [haha joking again].

Thanks again,

Deaner 66 [PS. Thanks Interman]
