BIG problem with my brothers puter :(

Im having a problem with my Bro's puter, Spec: 1.0ghz Intel P3, Gf 4 Mx 420 (PCI) HP mobo (not sure what), some cheap £5 sound card, XP Pro. 20 gig HDD.

Now, my bro shut the puter down as normal, and there was nothing wrong with it, and when he tryed to start it up, when its only just finished loading Windows XP it restarts for no reason, so, we Re-Formatted it, re-installed XP, and it does the same thing, with only one difference, it just black screens after it has loaded XP, and it wont move, it just sits there, i have no idea what it is, i havnt messed with the hardware, it just happend, we baught the puter second hand about 6 months ago, and have had no problems with it, and im not sure how old it is, or how old the HDD is, or what make it is, if anyone else has had this problem please tell me how to fix it , or if anyone has any advice that doesnt cost to much , please tell.

Hmm, I'd first try a different harddisk. If you still get the same error then try a different ram stick. If you still get a problem then make sure there's not too much dust in the heatsink/fan, which would make the cpu overheat, and perhaps cause instability.

your probly right, but i dont really have 'other' ram sticks, or HDD to try it out though

what about your own harddisk try that one out

We've sorted it, i took the graf. card out and it worked , we gonna put it back in and see what happends
