It means, if the websites that he has been reading on how to overclock his CPU (i take it he has been reading up), Havnt told him to increase his FSB then he should find a site that goes into more detail about it.

Well there is only two ways to overclock your cpu. Either by increasing the FSB or increasing your multiplier.

Lets say you have a 1.8 intel cpu thats a 1800=100x18 100mhz for the FSB and 18 as a multiplier.

so if we increase the FSB to 104 it will be 104x18=1872 MHZ.

and you will have an overclocked cpu

Oh kool, i didnt know it worked like that *embarassed*

What if you have a 2500+ Barton @ 333FSB (factory set) and your Mobo says it can handle a 333FSB, does that meen it cant handle anymore than that?

here's a link to the one im getting you see --LINK-- and it says 333/266/200MHz ...

the 333/266/200 means your memory FSB and not your CPU FSB.

I think Barton cpus runs at 133 mhz but bouble pumped ( 266MHZ cpu front side bus)

By the way, if you increase your CPU front side bus, your PCI bus and your Memory front side bus will be increased automatically, so be carefull

The PCI bus runs at 66MHZ
The AGP bus runs at 266MHZ 4x \ 533MHZ 8x

I think Bartons are 333MHZ/266MHZ front side bus ( 166MHZx2) compatible.

If the Bios dont feature settings to overclock your CPU then you flash it to add these settings or you can change the jumpers placement located on your MOBO to overclock your cpu.

Interman,

So far, I got it to 1.7Ghz on standard voltage (1.6). I'm gonna fool around with upping the voltage some today. I had it up to 1.8v last night (that's how I got it to 2Ghz oooh so briefly)

irs,

I'm very well versed on OCing cpus, my old 1.4 Tbird ran for well over a year at 1.66. Multiplier is maxed for my mobo, which only lets me set it as far "13+"

CPUz keeps showing the multiplier at 11 though, not sure what that is all about, my bios is the latest ATI offers. Flashed it last night.

Syanide, go to www.hexus.net. They ran a test on my cpu and gave a very detailed discussion about how they went through the overclocking.

I see , But let us not to fool ourselves by saying yeah i managed to overclock my cpu from x to y . The only way to track the boost in performance is by running benchmarks and to see if the system is stable. I think thats the most important thing to be aware about.

Secondly if you have a bottleneck in your computer, lets say your system memory frequency, Even if you upgrade or overclocked your cpu/vga you will not acheive the optimal results. Always try to find the Bottleneck in your system and try upgrade it.
