Resident Tech Gurus, I Need Help with The Sims and DirectX!

So, I've got The Sims Castaway Stories. I'm seriously dying to play it. I can get it going on my desktop but I wanna be lazy and sit in bed with my notebook while I play.

When I tried installing it the first time, I got a pop up about not having DirectX installed. It gave me the Microsoft web address to download the latest version. I downloaded, installed, rebooted. Dxdiag shows it's installed so I try again with The Sims... but the same message about not having DirectX installed. I go back to the microsoft website to download and install again but of course, it tells me installation won't complete because I already have the latest version on my system.

I was kinda thinking maybe it was my PC because I couldn't get the latest patch from another game going either. But I dunno, I've done virus checks and all that. I downloaded a program to remove DirectX but I got a message about removing the program leaving my os inoperable so I chickened out!

Any ideas? I've scanned through the forums and found alot on Sims and DirectX but not really about this issue. So, if I there was something I missed, sorry...

Is it possible that you don't have your gfx drivers up to date or your card just won't run the game?

Updated drivers already... even double checked just now.

My card is good. Not great but I've never had a problem running anything on it... Nvidia GeForce 7600, 256mb. I've ran plenty of games on my notebook without a problem.

I don't know why The Sims hates my PC!

Did you try this direct x, if not, try it. Download details: DirectX 9.0c Redistributable for Software Developers

Then re-install your display driver, after that re-install your game. Should work, theoretically. But I said it when Sims 2 came out and I'm gonna say it again. It's a piece of shit game. Not the gameplay, but the technical aspect.

Alright... I'm about ready to call it quits! I downloaded the DirectX you suggested, reinstalled drivers and still, same message when I try installing. "Installation cannot continue because this game requires DirectX 9.0c or higher to be installed on your system."

I'm thinking maybe you're right about The Sims... looks like I'm gonna need to find a different game to play.
