Just spotted this bit of info at Inquirer.net

Quote:
After ATI introduced its late summer speed update, codenamed the R360, we can reveal today that it is set to make a significant change to eighteen months of R300 architecture. The R350 and R360 are just speed bumps of existing architecture with some features enabled, but the technology called R420 is a totally new architecture.
The R420 is being developed under the project name Loki. The R420 will be a PCI Express chip and at this time we can only wonder how many transistors it will have, but we have every reason to assume more than 110 million and probably less than 150 million. The answer to AGP compatibility is that ATI is going to develop a PCI Express to AGP bridge, so it will work with existing AGP platforms and still work when PCI Express boards hit the market.
Damn my current vga looks already OUTDATED

I'm pretty sure nvidia will take the same path, but what im wondering is how much of a difference the extra bus speed will have, because as most of you know, going from 4x agp to 8x didn't boost the performance THAT much, at all.

The difference will be in the core(pipeline) design, and in the PCI Express technologie.

changing the core is one thing, but i doubt moving to pci express will mean THAT much, if you for instance just took a radeon 9800 and converted it into using pci express instead of agp 8x.

^^^^^^
I think the PCI express Tech is some sort of technologie that build a bridge over the existing agp bus. ATI and Intel will move soon to this Technologie, but only benchmarks will tell if this new tech is worthy
